Wizards, Geese, and the Sound of Chaos

Hello, dear readers, and welcome back to our monthly gathering. July is here, and I have news that has me positively buzzing. You know that story—the one that's been rattling around in my imagination, demanding to be told. The one with the portal, the glitter, and a dragon who is entirely too dignified for his own good.

It's finally here.

The audiobook of "Wizards Are Not Welcome Here" is now available, and I cannot wait for you to meet the characters who have taken up permanent residence in my heart.

Let me introduce you properly.

First, there's Ollie Twiggle. A wizard, yes, but not the imposing kind. His hat droops. His robes have seen better days. His spells have a tendency to… catch up with him. He is, in every sense, a magical enthusiast rather than a magical expert. But he means well. He always means well. And isn't that what matters?

Then there's Percival Luminos the Third. A dragon. An orange dragon. A dragon who has been dipped, quite thoroughly, in glitter. He emerges from a portal—Ollie's doing, naturally—demanding tea and biscuits and a suitable treasure hoard. He is dramatic, particular, and deeply offended by the suggestion that he might cry. (He does cry, eventually. It's a whole thing.)

And then there is the teacup.

I won't tell you everything about the teacup. But I will say this: it is not just a teacup. It belonged to Percival's great-grandmother, the legendary dragon Rosalind Sparklewing.

The journey to retrieve this hoard takes our unlikely heroes through bogs and across moors, past a bog beast who demands songs about mud, and into a cave that holds more questions than answers. There is singing. There is squelching. There is a sheep named Ethel who invites herself along and refuses to leave.

And through it all, there is the question: what makes something truly precious? Is it the thing itself, or the story behind it?

The Audiobook

This story was meant to be heard.

The audiobook brings Nibble-on-the-Moor to life in ways I could only imagine. The voice, the sound, the atmosphere—everything you need to immerse yourself in the most gloriously chaotic village this side of a dimensional rift. You can almost smell the buttered scones. You can almost hear the sheep muttering about the weather.

The Soundtrack

But wait—there is more.

The music is available on YouTube, over at The Wonderful World of Hock. And it is glorious.

There is a song. A song sung by Percival Luminos the Third himself—that glittering, dramatic, entirely too-dignified-for-his-own-good dragon. It is a song about his travels. About the vast and wondrous places he has seen. About the treasures he has collected and lost and collected again.

But it is also a song about something deeper.

Because somewhere between the glitter and the grandeur, Percival discovers what truly matters. It is not the gold. Not the jewels. Not the sprawling hoards that dragons are meant to covet. It is the people he has met along the way. The memories he has gathered. The friends who have stood by him—even when he was being insufferable.

And then there is the teacup.

You will hear about the teacup in the song. It is small. It is ordinary. It is, by any reasonable measure, completely unremarkable. And yet, to Percival, it is everything. It belonged to his great-grandmother, the legendary Rosalind Sparklewing. It is a connection to a past he never knew but somehow carries with him. It is proof that love outlasts treasure. That memory outshines gold.

The song will make you laugh. It might make you tear up, just a little. It will certainly make you think twice about what you value.

I have listened to it more times than I care to admit. It makes me grin every single time. It also makes me pause, and remember, and hold the people I love just a little bit closer.

The soundtrack is waiting for you on The Wonderful World of Hock on YouTube. Find it. Listen to it. Let Percival's voice carry you away.

And then, perhaps, ask yourself: what is your teacup?

Where to Find It

The audiobook is available now at hocksbox.com

The soundtrack is waiting for you on The Wonderful World of Hock on YouTube.

Settle in. Press play. Let yourself be carried away to Nibble-on-the-Moor—where the cobblestones nudge you towards the bakery, the weather can be bribed with poetry, and a dragon in glitter might just become your favourite character.

And remember: wizards are absolutely, definitely, not welcome.

(Though one does seem to have found his way in anyway. But that's the thing about wizards, isn't it? They never quite read the signs.)

Thank you, as always, for being here. For pulling up that armchair and letting me share these strange and wonderful tales with you. This one is special to me. I hope it becomes special to you too.

Until next month, may your days be filled with good tea, better company, and absolutely no unscheduled portals.

With all my love,

P.S.
